Pilates experience begins with the completion of a series of 3 Private/Duet Orientation lessons (although 6 lessons are highly recommended for best results). Each lesson is 60 minutes in length. Prior training in Pilates may be considered to meet all or part of this pre-requisite.
These lessons form the foundation of your Pilates experience. Without a strong foundation,
no technique (no matter how good it is) will yield all of the benefits available to you.
|
Your lessons begin with a brief history of The Method pioneered by Joseph Pilates, progressing
to the contemporary, anatomical approach of STOTT PILATES, and current spinal rehabilitation training.
During this first lesson your instructor will take a brief medical history focusing on injuries and/or
|
illnesses that may affect physical performance, talk with you about your goals with Pilates, and complete a
postural analysis and an initial muscular assessment. You will then be taught the 6 basic principles of alignment,
which is the cornerstone of STOTT PILATES.
Each subsequent lesson will build upon the previous, introducing more complex movements along with core strengthening and stabilization exercises. By the end of these introductory lessons, you will have learned the foundational elements of Pilates and a solid curriculum of essential equipment exercises that build initial strength in the core, lengthen and release tight muscles, as well as the use of props (if necessary) to assist you in your program.
|
Your instructor may recommend additional private lessons if deemed necessary prior to joining group equipment classes, as the group class environment may not be appropriate for every person.
Private lessons are the Gold Standard in Pilates. Joseph Pilates designed his system to be taught one-on-one with each student so that each Lesson is custom tailored to meet your personal learning style, speed, and meet your goals. Private Lessons move at your pace, not at the pace of a group, and are the quickest way to make progress and transform your body. Private lessons are also the choice for those who are working with an active or chronic injury/pain, and for those who prefer the personalized attention that only Private Lessons can provide.
You may also elect to continue your training in private lessons. Or, share a private lesson with a “training buddy” and create a "duet" lesson for the two of you! (Add $15 for the second person, per lesson.)
| Private Lessons are an excellent choice for a number of reasons: |
- Get more out of each lesson and gain results faster with a training program custom tailored for you (versus meeting the varied needs of a small group class)
- Some people prefer a one-on-one private training experience
- Work with one of our therapist/instructors to assist in rehabilitating an injury or health condition
- Preparing for, or cross-training for, an athletic event
- Combining massage therapy and mindful movement as an integrated therapeutic experience
- Frequent personal schedule changes that do not allow participation in regularly scheduled group classes
- To develop an at-home or on-the-road program custom tailored to your goals and body
- Refine your skills, gain clarity, ask questions, and take your experience to the next level with a regular or occasional private lesson as an augment to group class or other physical activities
|
How to Prepare for Your Pilates Lessons
|
- Please bring “Pilates socks” (no-slip/safety socks – a pair is included with your Three Orientation Lessons) and a small towel for your personal use.
- Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move, yet also allows your instructor to see the movements that your body is making. Please bring clean bare feet.
- Do not eat a meal for at least 2 hours prior to your lesson. A small snack or piece of fruit is a great alternative and will support rather than deter from your experience.
- Drink plenty of water prior to, and after your lesson.
- We have plenty of bottled water on hand as well as teas.
- Due to allergies and sensitivities that other students may have, please do not use perfumes.

Gyrotonic Lessons (60 minutes)
Gyrotonic is an experience not to be missed.
Beginning with your initial lesson, your instructor will begin to teach your body a new way of moving, engaging mind, body, and spirit. Many people liken this feeling to that of a really great massage: opening, relaxing, peaceful, yet invigorating, strengthening, and lengthening. Each subsequent lesson will build upon the prior lesson, engaging all aspects of you in the experience.
You may also begin this journey with a Duet partner so that both of you can share this adventure together.
If you do not have a Duet partner, your experience will begin in a Private Lesson format and the studio will do it’s best to find a duet partner for you of similar ability and with a compatible schedule. Please let us know early so we can assist you as best as possible.
| Gyrotonic
Lessons are an excellent choice for a number of reasons: |
- Organic, rejuvenating, and invigorating mind-body-spirit experience
- Rehabilitating an injury or health condition (Gyrotonic was formerly called “Spinal Gymnastics” and is excellent for mobilizing, stabilizing, lengthening and strengthening all the joints and tissues of the body).
- Gyrotonic is the leading choice of physical therapists in Germany 10:1 over Pilates for rehabilitating orthopedic and neuromuscular injuries
- Preparing for, or cross-training for, an athletic event
- Combining massage therapy and mindful movement as therapy
- Great augment to Pilates or Yoga group classes or other physical activities
- Excellent stand alone full-body workout incorporating strength, length, three-dimensional movement, and cardiovascular work
- Gyrotonic feels GREAT! An experience one must have rather than read about. Be prepared to feel amazed!

Yoga Therapy Lessons (60 minutes)
Our studio currently offers Yoga Therapy Lessons in a private or duet format. We no longer offer group yoga classes.
| Yoga Private Lessons are an excellent choice for a number of reasons: |
- One-on-one Yoga experience. Throughout its history, Yoga was taught in a one-on-one manner…teacher to student. This allows for more personal choice in "prescribing" the tools for a Yoga lesson versus a general class experience
- Rehabilitating an injury or health condition. Yoga has been shown to have enormous health benefits. And again, private lessons are generally the best place to begin this journey
- Establishing or refining a personal home practice with the instructor as your mentor
- Yoga is an excellent stress reduction practice, when practiced on a regular basis. Allow us to customize programs to fit neatly into your life (15 min, 30 min, 60 min, and 90 min custom lessons are available).
- Combining massage therapy and mindful movement as therapy
- Great augment to Pilates or other physical activities
|
How to Prepare for Your Yoga Therapy Lessons
|
- Please bring a yoga mat and a small towel for your personal use.
- Drink plenty of water prior to, and after your lesson.

the movements and meditations to meet your health and healing goals

- Combining massage therapy and mindful movement as therapy
- Great augment to Pilates or other physical activities
